Why I Stopped Trying to Be the Ocean (And Found My Sovereignty)

For a long time, I thought my value depended on how much I could get done. I believed that doing more was always better, so I tried to meet every need and be everything for everyone. I thought real success, both spiritually and professionally, meant being like the ocean—vast and limitless.

I felt I had to be endless, always expanding, but trying to be the ocean made me lose my own feeling of peace.

My perspective changed when I learned about the 9th Universal Law, the Law of Relativity. This law says that nothing is truly big or small in itself. Things only seem large or small when we compare them to something else.

I saw that I wasn’t failing because I couldn’t be the ocean. I was just measuring myself the wrong way. This insight sparked a shift in me: my value is not in endless doing, but in offering focused, meaningful contributions.

"A single drop of water is insignificant to the ocean, but it is everything to a thirsty traveler."

Now, I focus on meeting the needs of the right-fit people, trusting that my value is found in the direct impact I create. When we try to do it all, we pile pressure onto ourselves. It shows up as tight shoulders, shallow breaths, and racing thoughts. That is the weight of always striving for more.

When we choose presence, our bodies soften. We regain a sense of control, discovering that a single drop of focused energy can create more ripples than being stretched too thin. If the urge to do more leaves you feeling overwhelmed, I invite you to look at things from a new angle:

  1. Identify the Comparison: Are you feeling small because you are looking at an "ocean" that isn't yours to fill?

  2. Instead of trying to fix everything at once, ask yourself, "Who needs my help most today?" Sometimes, that person might even be you.

  3. Give your full attention to just one task or conversation. Notice how, at that moment, your presence means everything.

Sovereignty means accepting that true value is not in vastness, but in being fully yourself. Real healing comes when you honor your unique presence rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

Where might you allow yourself to be the perfect drop today, rather than striving to become the whole ocean?

Let us discover the peace that comes from focus, together. 🌊💧

With Love, Melissa xx
